America's Army version 2.5.0.
If you have a previous version installed, you need to
uninstall it before installing this version. There is
a script in the game's directory called "uninstall"
for this purpose. Alternately, you can delete the
game's directory and (as the user who installed the
game) ~/.loki/installed/armyops.xml ...

Ok guys, Im new to the whole Linux gig, so far I've been able to get mp3's to work and thats about fricken it.
I need full step by step directions on how to install this game, I used to be a very avid player and then quit some time ago around version 2.7.
I downloaded it and its saved on my desktop but everything I've tried gets me no where and I'm clueless and about to go the the gym.
Someone who does this often, like I said, please help.
Thanks peeps,
Bracket44
Bracket44, try to give your system specs and a more specific description of your problem. Do you get a black screen, does it do nothing at all, or do you get error messages? Simply saying "It's not working" doesn't tell enough for anyone to be able to figure out what your problem is.
sisk, bracket44 does not get what to do with the .BIN fileformat
bracket44 open your terminal(if you are running ubuntu(applications/ accessiorys/ terminal)) type:
>>>cd Desktop
>>>sh ./armyops250linux.run(OR).bin (Im not sure which one)
and then it will install
Quote: plz tell me how
Right click, go to permissions tab, click to allow executing file as a program. Double click the icon
ok when i try to install and it all going good then when it gose to the instalation path part it say "no write promession /usr/local/games" plz help i want to play this game!!!!
/usr/local/games won't be writable by you by default
you'll have to run the install as root (sudo ./name of installer here), that being said, is there a way to install this to my home directory, I don't like to install things as root that didn't come from my repos. might as well as invite people to create malicious code....
After Installing this game "Americas Army" on my linux box, i attempt to run it but get a couple problems.
I see the splash screen.
and in the Terminal it says
"WARNING: ALC_EXT_capture is subject to change!
Couldn't set video mode: Couldn't find matching GLX visual"
has anyone else gotten this problem?
its starting to IRK me, after i saw the screenshots i had to get into the game, but so far no luck.
if anyone can help.
i am running Slackware Linux 12.0. with just a onboard video component. nothing special... Should i maybe upgrade my graphics card?
thanks to any and all that helped

alright, this is how you install and play the game
download the install file then open terminal and change the path:
cd ~/Desktop
Then set the permissions for the file:
chmod +x armyops250linux.run
then run the file as root
sudo ./armyops250linux.run
that will get the game working
im running on a new labtop with windows Vista and its taking me like 22 hrs! i have lots of space (like i said, its a new labtop) abd its taking me forever. this is my 2nd time downloading AA because the 1st time it came up with that 'No privligas' error. i saw some solutions some people have posted on this forum so when its done ill try them and hope it works this time . But is it my internet connection thats making my download take so long?? or is it the site im downloading it from?
does this edition works for ubuntu 8.1 too?
i have it installed and i see it on my desktop but its just a white box with a blue triangle in it...i dont know what else to do....someone plz help thanks....-
When I execute the "armyops" command from my "/usr/local/games/armyops" directory I receive the following error:
"./armyops-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
Any clues?
Always make sure you have the proper video driver installed and make sure it really works(No Compiz, No Video)! I never use or recommend Envy for video installation! Make sure your system is up to date before trying to install anything! On ubuntu you do need to be root "usually" to perform any installation and expect it to work properly! And make sure you look into the software you plan on installing and fulfill it's minimum requirements before trying any installation procedure that way you prevent any errors from popping up the first time! As for my install I'm using ubuntu 8.10 64 bit, Nvidias newest release from their site for my video (180.22) and it works great! But a new user may need to remember to use sudo apt-get update in a terminal before using the update manager to ensure they get the entire list of required updates! Also if your video is set above 1024x768 than it will give you no screen! To fix it use this key ~ Below escape button!
Then type: setres 1024x768x24
Then hit enter!
It gives you a 1024x768x24 bit resolution and should give you your screen back!
Hey, Downloaded the 250. tryed that Terminal thing, just got cd ~/Desktop = bash: cd: /home/[name]/desktop: No such file or directory
chmod +x armyops250linux.run = chmod: cannot access `armyops250linux.run': No such file or directory
Sudo = sudo: ./armyops250linux.run: command not found
Im running Linux Ubuntu 8.10, anyone help?

[root@localhost Desktop]#
How could I do?
To make it work just go into the terminal change directory to the directory where you downloaded the file. then just past in sudo sh ./armyops250linux.run and press enter
note if your terminal looks like this:
<username>@<username>desktop:~$ you are NOT in the desktop directory yet. I know it looks like you are but you ain't. This was tripping me up too.
It should look like this
<username>@<username>-desktop:~/Desktop$
So if you saved the file on your desktop input the fallowing and it should work. Note it is case sensitive
<username>@<username>desktop:~$ cd Desktop
<username>@<username>-desktop:~/Desktop$ sudo sh ./armyops250linux.run
