What's new
=========================
New Multiplayer Missions
------------------------------------------------------------
Included in this version of America's Army are four new
Special Forces multiplayer missions. Two of these new
missions contain both the Special Forces playable Soldier
class, as well as the Indigenous Forces playable class.
The other two new missions are 'SF Exclusive'containing
only the Special Forces playable Soldier class.
- SF Courtyard:
(SF & IF)
A daytime rural village mission where players must
question informants to find the location of a laptop
computer containing information about terrorist
operatives. Once secured, the Assault team must then
reach the extraction point with this laptop. The other
team is on Defense trying to prevent the other team from
securing and extracting with the laptop. This mission's
spawn points, NPC objectives, laptop objective, and
extraction points - are all randomly selected each round.
This mission includes the following new v2.4 features:
Random Spawn Points, Random Objectives, Inventory
Objectives, and Door Breachers.
- SF PCR (Precious Cargo Recovery):
(SF & IF)
A night urban mission where both teams must race to
retrieve a briefcase containing sensitive information
about terrorist operatives. Each team must locate and
secure this one briefcase and then carry it to their
extraction point successfully. The team that successfully
extracts with the briefcase in-hand wins! This mission's
spawn points, briefcase objective, and extraction points
(1 per team) - are all randomly selected each round. This
mission includes the following new v2.4 features: Random
Spawn Points, Random Objectives, Inventory Objectives,
and Bunker Defeating Munitions (BDM).
- SF Blizzard:
(SF Exclusive)
A night mission set in a snowy Alpine forest environment
where soldiers must gain entry and assault a remote enemy
compound. This map has 2 different objective scenarios
which are randomly selected each round. In one scenario
the soldiers must either destroy or protect the electrical
power station. The alternate scenario requires the
soldiers to either deactivate or protect the radio
communications equipment. This mission includes the
following new v2.4 features: Random Spawn Points,
Random Objectives, Door Breachers, and Bunker
Defeating Munitions (BDM).
- SF WaterTreatment:
(SF Exclusive)
A night urban mission where players must either protect or
secure containers of radiological material stored in
various locations within an urban complex. The Assaulting
team must gain entry to the building, locate and secure
the radioactive material container, and then reach the
extraction point successfully with this container. The
Defending team must protect and prevent extraction of this
sensitive container. This mission includes the following
new v2.4 features: Random Spawn Points, Random
Objectives, and Inventory Objectives.
New Weapons
------------------------------------------------------------
- M141 Bunker Defeat Munitions (BDM):
The M141 BDM, or Bunker Defeat Munitions, is a shoulder-
fired rocket designed to defeat fortified positions,
bunkers, and light armor. The BDM is given to the 18C SF
MOS Soldier (Engineering Sgt.) but can be used by any
member of the SF A-Team (ODA). The BDM can be used
anywhere, but will have specific targets designed as
objectives or obstacles. These specific targets will be
identified by a HUD message that will appear when the
player's crosshair moves over the object. The BDM in our
new v2.4 missions can be an advantageous tool to use in
order to tactically and efficiently gain entry into the
enemy's compound.
- AGP-DB14 Door Breacher:
The Door Breacher is an explosive device designed to make
entry on locked or un-operable doors. Another
MOS-specific weapon, the DB will be issued only to the
18C SF MOS Soldier (Engineering Sgt.). The Door Breacher
will be usable on designated locked doors in the new
missions. The player will be able to identify valid
targets by a 'Breachable' message that will appear on
the player's HUD. The Door Breaching in our new v2.4
missions can be an advantageous tool to use in order
to tactically and efficiently gain entry into enemy
restricted areas.
New Features
------------------------------------------------------------
- Updated Game Engine:
The entire America's Army game is now running on an
updated version of the Unreal Engine - Unreal Engine 2.5.
This updated engine code base provides several
enhancements to the game engine in several areas,
including efficiency (optimizations), security,
stability, bug fixes, new gameplay feature
infrastructure, etc.
- Updated User Interface:
As part of the new engine code base update, many new
user interface specific enhancements were implemented.
The v2.4 User Interface has been overhauled 'under the
hood' to take advantage of these new engine optimizations
and functionality. The game's new UI will look very
similar, however it will run much more efficiently and
utilize some of the new features of the new engine.
- Random Player Starts:
In v2.4 players will start randomly between
predetermined locations on the new levels. This allows
for a more dynamic and realistic game experience,
increasing replayability and helping to limit the
predictability of enemy placement and routes. Random
Player Starts will also enhance the current game by
putting more emphasis on strategy rather than the
memorization of map geometry. It will also reduce the
negative impact of exploits such as grenade spamming.
- Random Objective Locations:
In v2.4 the location of objectives will change for
each round, and can move around between any number of
possible positions. With the addition of random
objectives, the locations change from one round to the
next, forcing the need for both Assault and Defense
teams to search for the objective. This new feature
promotes replayablilty, and helps to enhance strategy
over predictability in game play.
- Inventory Objective Type:
v2.4 features an all new objective type in which
objectives can be transportable in maps (via a player's
inventory), requiring their delivery to specified
locations. These 'inventory objectives' can be picked up,
dropped (upon death), and passed on to other teammates.
Inventory objectives provide a new style of objective-
based game play by adding another dimension to objective
completion. These objectives must be picked up and taken
to a specific location in order to be considered complete.
If a player dies while carrying one of these objectives,
it drops, and must be retrieved by another teammate to
continue the mission. Inventory Objectives can be passed
on to teammates by using the action key on a teammate
(just like healing a teammate). These objective types also
take advantage of random objectives, by moving the drop
point/pickup point of the inventory objective to different
locations from one round to another.
- NPC Conversation Objective Type:
This feature allows a qualified player to help their team
by speaking with the NPC (Non-Playable Characters) placed
randomly around the level to gain intelligence about the
whereabouts of the mission's main objectives. Talking with
the NPC's will help the team locate the randomly placed
objectives in the level. Once a qualified player speaks to
an NPC in the level, the mission's main objective location
will show up on their team's HUD compass as normal.
- Special Forces A-Team Videos:
Included with this release of America's Army are all new
Special Forces informational videos. These 7 videos
describe each SF MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) in
detail as well as show some exclusive footage of the
Special Forces A-Team members in action. There is one
video for each member in the standard Special Forces ODA
(Operational Detachment Alpha - or 'A-Team'). These 7 SF
MOS team members are as follows:
18A - Detachment Commander
18B - Weapons Sergeant
18C - Engineering Sergeant
18D - Medical Sergeant
18E - Communications Sergeant
18F - Intel Sergeant
18Z - Team Sergeant
These videos are included in the v2.4.0 Full Install and
can be accessed using the desktop shortcut created or by
navigating to the 'America's Army\System\Videos' directory
and double clicking the 'SF_A-Team_Videos.exe' file.

I've download Q-Course from here and fileshack, both of them say some error not being compatible for Win32, and I double-checked and made sure it was the windows version, then i tried to redownload it here and its something about a cd key not being active.

Well, you're all going to have fun with this non-existant patch you keep talking about, It is only a full installation, delete your old AA installation and install this after.
As for the invaild Win32 File problem, it may just be the download, if you're using FireFox or any download accelerator such as Getright, don't bother, the connection is cut after a certain length of time so you'll have to download it again. Download it through Internet Explorer as its more reliable for downloads such as AA, and you can leave it running as long as you want.
I forgot to mention, for those who ask "Whats new in this patch/full install" read above, it isn't rocket science as it lists everything which is new, edited etc. in the description above....
I downloaded 2.4 from filefront and when I open the installer it installs like... a few files but I try to run the game and its says its missing .dll files.... so apparently... the 40 .rar archives that come with it..... are supposed to be unpacked... which they aren't. I can logic out some places to unpack stuff... but its ridiculous.... there's no way to know for sure where everything goes... I can start the game after unpacking in my guessed spots but its still missing things ... an error comes up after the splash screen saying this:

Yea, I cant find how to uninstall my version 2.3. Do I even need to do this to run 2.4?
My Computer -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> America's Army
If there are two America's Army installations showing uninstall both and then reinstall Version 2.4, It will take longer as there are no files already in the America's Army directory but it should work after that.
When you first play Version 2.4 you may get a General Error (Critical Error), This only occurs on the first few servers you join, or if you join an unstable Non-Honor server.
You dont understand. I cant get to the main menu.... the download from filefront is a bunch of archives and a lousy unpacker (well I think so)...
Whats even BETTER is it auto installs onto your C drive.... I MEAN.... WTF!

There will not be a patch. AA has switched to the Unreal 2.5 engine, nearly every file was changed, so if there were a patch it be 800 mbs too

I think its rather hard to get this game i downloaded from fileshack because the filefront mirrors were too slow but once i got it it said it wasnt a invalid win32 file but i havent used any dl accelrator and i used IE to download i also see that the belgacom server is down. Does somebody know where i can download a valid version with a average speed of 165 kb/s?

There will not be a patch, I downloaded 2.4 from a FileFront.com server at an avaerage speed of 185kb/s, it took two hours to download, give or take a minute.
Another thing, you need over 10GB worth of memory on your harddrive to which you're installing America's Army to. I had this problem when I first installed it, isn't that hard to correct.
I think the filefront servers were slow because of the huge amount of people downloading it this is the most downloaded version of AA ever. The filefront public download servers had waiting times for more than 5 minutes. useally there isnt even any waiting time....

I keep getting this same problem i download the file size differs every time and it says invalid win32 file! what do i have to do. i really want to play this i download over 5 times

I downloaded it from there, it worked the first time for me, no problems except a few files needed to be deleted to make space for the game and to run it.
If you have any problems it isn't our problem, its your own. If the same problem persists then go to http://www.americasarmy.com, then to their forums and pester The DEVs about it. Maybe the download didn't complete properly, if your computer goes onto standby mode itself after a period of time, that can cause the fragmentation of a download and not all the information is downloaded completely.
We do try to help, but if you constantly state the same problem over and over we just give up on you, you need to give us time to correct the problems which are occuring and figure out ways of stopping this from happening again, but first we need to figure out what the problem is, why the Win32 File is invalid and why it is happening.
PLEASE, Give us time.

I have the retail version from e3 and everytime I load a map in MP I get a an error saying I cant download the map or somethin.
If you are having various issues with file corruption, missing files, or crc errors while installing or unzipping, then disable all aspects of your antivirus. Especially if you have Norton Anti virus. Turn it off, and kill all of the processes running in the background related to it.
Also, after uninstalling ver. 2.3 you may have to delete the old program folder as well.
IF you keep getting an error while trying to run the game that says " inpos>size ffilemanager windows, your computer is overheating or you have a corrupted installation, please reinstall the game" , No matter how many times you reinstall, youkeep getting this error, Then try changing the install path.
IE: instead of installing to crogram filesamericas army, install to c:americas army.
I hope my 8 hour long frustrating situation will help others to get out there playing ver. 2.4 sooner.

I try to activate my new version and it's getting stuck!! when I'm activating application without connecting to the internet it's working but of course can't play because there's no connection. when I'm connecting and opening the aa2.4.0 exe shortcut it shows the AA logo and getting stuck, just don't work!! don't know what to do!! This doesnt add anything good. Menus look like ***** and there is nothing changed in the gameplay, so why did they convert it to Unreal engine? They shouldnt had done anything else than just added those new weapons and made it just a small size patch.

I played aa at a friends house (mp) im wondering does aa have a single player campaign?
There is not a single player campaign in AA at the moment, in future versions there most probably will be and also in the console version.

Is there ever going to be a Linux version of this release? Or are we going to have to wait until 2.5 comes out first?
Yep, there is an America's Army 2.4 torrent file on some websites, but from what I saw they werent being seeded so its pointless trying unless you want to wait 10 times longer than any other file website.
As for a Linux version of 2.4, i'd look around the official AA forums about that, there will surely be a version for linux, maybe in the next week or so. When a Linux and Mac version has been released you will definately find it here

You need to delete things off your harddrive. I had the same problem when I first installed 2.4 and tried playing it. I freed atleast 6gb more on my HDD and it worked after that.

Find the freakin download/patch areas I hate to say this but damn near everytime i go to patch or update the game I can not find the freakin files with out first doing a google search why not have a link on the game itself to this place?

You don't need version 2.3 installed to install version 2.4
It is a completely new installation file, there is no patch so you cannot update it.
Download the America's Army 2.4 Q-Course file or request a CD from a recruiter and install it.
It is just the same installation process as it was when you installed 2.0a.
I reason there is no patch is because a new engine has been implemented into the game, so practically every file which is installed needs to be changed, if there was a patch it would be around the same size as the full installation.
Anyway, get rid of any other version you have, because from now on you'll only need version 2.4.

THERE IS NO PATCH, THERE HAS BEEN A NEW ENGINE INSTALLED INTO THE GAME, EVERY FILE HAS CHANGED, IF THERE WAS A PATCH IT WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY THE SAME FILESIZE AS THE FULL INSTALLATION.
For the problem of the low download rate, stop doing all the stuff you're doing on your computer.
Stop complaining, its using valuable bandwidth.
Before you attempt to load this, you must deinstall the old software via control panel. The new game is very different, but you can still play all of the old missions.
Clearly, if you can read this, you can download the correct file. . Once you complete this, the files (americasarmy240_aafiles.exe size 876,259KB) icon can be double clicked. This will start a self unpacking process, at the end of which you may close the unpack utility. The setup of the software should commence and complete without difficulty. If you choose to install the server mangement software you should first setup Microsoft Windows® Dot Net services and be sure they are upgraded. If you attempt to install it without this software, it will appear that you may have not completed the installation, but the game software is completely installed.
This is a great improvement to the graphics engine, but I have not been able to get the text-to-speech to work as yet. Yes, I enabled it.
Is it me (my internet connection), or everyone else had to download game multiple times to get BAD CRC free package? First time i got some error 1335 or so....and since im on 192kbps (and thats 24kb/s max)...it takes like 14 hours or so for each other try. I've tryed with WellGet (without file split), I've tryed with plain IE downloader, but nooooooooo. Time to try with firefox downloader.

Anyway...
...My download worked first time, I downloaded it using IE and it works perfectly, any download accelerator will not complete the download as the servers do not allow reconnection and once the time has ran out on the server you cannot reconnect and continue the download.
Using FireFox Download feature is a bad idea, it gets fragmented while its being downloaded and will just be a corrupt download most likely.
i keep getting these dll errors so i find the file thats missing put it in my AA system file and it comes up with another error so i redownload it install it and the same this happens

Yeah, i understand reconnection and server limitations, its just i'm a bit dissapointed when download finishes, then during extraction error shows up. Allways those file transfer errors. Ill try one more time with ie, saw that firefox is bad choice, thanx for tip anyway.

i would advise closing MSN Messenger if you have it open whilst the download is running!

I have just downloaded 2.4 but for some reason I cannot see the floor/ground on training missions? Any ideas on what it might be, the rest of the graphics are okay just the floor, it is stopping me from p*****ing training as I can't see the obstacle course!!?
if you downloaded it from the euro server it dosen't work try the amercian servers, it worked for me, don't know if my comp can support the new engine cause i think the system requiremnets have jumped up
Okay ive just downloaded it (5 hour download cause im an Aussie). It said it was 855.72MB when i was downloading it. Now it says its 554, 354KB and its displaying itself s a WinZip file. However i cannot use WinRAR or WinZip to open it. I believe it may be the virus because from what everyone says, the download doesnt come as a WinZip file, it comes as an exe. I downloaded it from GamesFusion which i was linked to via the official Americas Army web site. Do i have the virus? If not how do i install it?
PS its file name is "AmericasArmy240_Download" which i have spelt EXACTLY as it is, caps and all. And when i mouse over it all it says is "Type: WinZip File".

ive downloaded it bout 4 times and everytime its stopped at 99% and sats not responding
i decided 2 download 2.3 agen (cos i deleted all my files) then that stopped at 99% too

I am sorry to bring up the same consistent problem but there are a great number of people who are having trouble with downloading 2.4 and it saying that it is not a vaild Win 32 application. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could find the root of the problem because there are so many people having this same difficulty.
I guess I should not complain though, the game is free after all. But I would really enjoy playing it. Also, I downloaded it twice on a cable connection WITHOUT a download accelerator and on Internet Explorer while constantly making sure that the system does not go into standby.

ok, first off: if it says invalid win32-whatever, then TRY ANOTHER MIRROR.
if it says Cannot connect to Server while playing, then (this is a toughie) it obviously cannot connect to the server. Check your connection.
if you are too impatient and/or have 56k or possibly (shiver) 28k, then tough it out or get the dvd. you can get it on http://www.americasarmy.com and goto download then click on the dvd link.
THERE IS NEVER GOING TO BE A PATCH. THERE IS A NEW GRAPHICS ENGINE AND MAKING A PATCH WOULD JUST BE MAKING THE FULL DOWNLOAD BECAUSE EVERY FILE HAS CHANGED!

I FRIKIN CANT PLAY ONLINE!! WHENEVER I GET INTO A SERVER IT SAYS SUMTHING ABOUT ME GETTING KICKED FOR UNKNOWN REASON... I know it has sumthing to do with punkbuster, but i dont think i have punkbuster period, where can i get it, i know it says it comes with the full AA download, but its not there!!! This really *****es me off.

Reconnect on votekick - player will automatically reconnect when a votekick suceeds

Lets hope Punkbuster and the AA Dev team fix these soon.

It sounds like you might have some files missing. If you had problems installing it you might want to try and download it again. Something may have happened during the download.

i know theres pleanty more to list but thats a short list for now....other than that the game is good expect these *****ers that want to put a 10-20 minute time limit on a game and u cant respawn...and the player reloads slow as hell(changing out a mag or droping a 40mm nade out of the m203) in real life im throwing that mag out and im throwing a new one in and start shooting again....but anyway

On the medics first test it dosent do anything ANYTHING! After i finish the test i get up to go see him and he gives me a warning...i get in my seat wait for 5 min it still dosent do anything so i get up and he tells me to step outside. ive tried it 2 time watching his little crappy guide and still nothing every time!

Ive never had a previous version or anything like this for AA so now ive downloaded and installed, when i double click the desktop shortcut, why does it load then go blank and crash i.e not do anything, i cant alt tab or anything. i did once get further to the title screen but again there was no cursor and couldn't do anything!!!!!! why is it always so gay!

Be sure your firewall allows America's Army version 2.4 full access. That is known to cause the problem [particularly ZoneAlarm].
It just quits after 60% and then I can't open the file it produces becuase it gives and error as an invalid win32 application

This is retarded.... I used to be an avid AA player, so when AA 2.4 came out I naturally downloaded it, about 5 times! Each and every time I got a CRC error. I just decided yesterday to give it another try, I wake up this morning to find the SAME RESULT AGAIN! sounds.cab has crc errors. I am downloading it once again now.... I'm getting so freaking *****ED OFF it's not even funny. Damn thing takes 3 hours to download and then to find out it's corrupt is a obvious *****-off
